Our Services

  • Specialist studies

We provide comprehensive field surveys and impact assessments for invertebrates according to national (e.g. South African Species Environmental Assessment Guideline) or international (e.g. IFC PS6) guidelines as appropriate.

For rehabilitation monitoring we have developed an expanded protocol, based on that used for South African climate change monitoring transects in the Sani Pass, Cedarberg and Soutpansberg, using insect indicator groups appropriate to the habitats and ecosystems encountered on each project site.

Since each project is unique we will prepare a quotation upon request. Please contact us and we will happily supply you with a quote.

Please see our standard terms and conditions.

  • Ant Identification

We offer an identification service for Afrotropical ants as described in our brochure; since representatives of the specimens identified will be incorporated into our ant collection as vouchers, collection data is required as indicated in our data submission spreadsheet.

  • Microphotography

We use a Leica MZ16-based imaging system, controlled by Leica LAS software and with custom-built diffused lighting and specimen manipulation hardware, to capture high-resolution image stacks of specimens for processing into fully-focused montage images using Helicon Focus. With over 14 years experience in imaging, we can provide high-quality images without delays due to time-consuming trial-and-error.
We have refined a technique used by Rudolf Scheffrahn for wet imaging of termites, which allows wet imaging of a variety of invertebrate taxa as small as 1 mm in total length, leaving the specimen undamaged and available for further processing such as DNA extraction and subsequent mounting.
